Congressman Rothfus’ First Commercial Focuses On Supporting Our Veterans
Ross Twp — The Rothfus for Congress Campaign released the following statement announcing the launch of Congressman Keith Rothfus’ first television commercial of the 2016 election cycle focused on veterans, Not Alone.
“Our veterans and active military members are fighting everyday to protect our freedom and that is why I am proud to strongly support them in Congress,” Rothfus said. “We have a moral obligation to ensure our veterans receive the healthcare and benefits they earned by serving our country and putting their lives on the line to defend our country. They stand for us, and I will always stand for them.”
The 12th Congressional District is home to thousands of veterans and their families and Keith Rothfus fights for them in Washington, D.C.
Holding the VA Accountable
Keith Rothfus continues working to implement reforms to the VA so that our veterans receive the care they deserve.
Supported Increased Funding for VA
Keith Rothfus supported the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2017 which increased funding by 3% from the previous year. (Roll Call 228, May 19, 2016: Roll Call Vote 342, June 23, 2016) The bill included an additional priority for mental health care, suicide prevention, traumatic brain injury treatment, and funding to help provide treatment for those suffering from the opioid epidemic. This legislation included restrictions on bonus payments to VA executives that Keith has and will continue to fight for.
Fought to Protect Whistleblowers While Fighting for Opioid Prescribing Training Keith Rothfus proudly supported and helped amend legislation, the VA Accountability Fist and Appeals Modernization Act of 2016 (H.R. 5620) to strengthen whistleblower protections, reform the VA’s disability benefits appeals process and provide additional authority to the Secretary to discipline employees for performance or misconduct. (Roll Call: 519: September 14, 2016) Keith successfully offered an amendment along with Congressman Bill Keating (MA-10) to the legislation that encouraged safety with regard to the prescribing practices of opioids by health care professionals within the VA by having them complete at least one Continuing Medical Education course in pain management every two years.
Puppies for Veterans
Keith Rothfus Joined Congressman Ron DeSantis (FL-6) in supporting the Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers (PAWS) Act (H.R. 4764) to create a five-year pilot program that pairs veterans with severe post-traumatic stress disorders or brain injury with a service dog.
Supports Global War on Terrorism Memorial
Keith Rothfus co-sponsored legislation (H.R. 5999) to establish the National Global War on Terrorism Memorial to honor the commitment and sacrifice of the brave soldiers who have defended our freedom in this ongoing war.
Keith Rothfus was first elected to represent the 12th Congressional District in 2012. He successfully won re-election in 2014 and is seeking to serve his third consecutive term in the United States Congress. He is committed to the national security of our nation against the threats of the 21st Century, including those presented by ISIS, radical Islamic Jihad, Iran and North Korea. He has sponsored legislation to protect the jobs and wages of hardworking Western Pennsylvanians and to replace the President’s harmful health care law with reforms that provide more choices and empower patients and consumers instead of Washington bureaucrats. Congressman Rothfus will continue to fight overreaching Executive Orders affecting everything from Second Amendment rights to illegal immigration, and he will continue to defend the unborn by advocating for pro-life policies. He has also fought for energy independence by supporting policies that would allow us to take advantage of our abundant natural agencies.
Keith and his wife Elsie are raising their family in Allegheny County.
